Because the Department of Veterans Affairs offers the VA loan to those that have served the United States of America as a means by which to honor their service to our great country, the VA recognizes that the brave servicemen and women who were injured or sustained service related disabilities should be afforded additional benefits and housing options.

The most utilized benefit offered to disabled veterans is the elimination of the VA funding fee. For veterans who have been determined by the department of Veterans Affairs to have 10% or more service connected disabled, the VA waves the normally associated funding fee. As such, disabled veterans are able to purchase or refinance a home without the impact of the funding fee which is applied to all other veterans utilizing their VA entitlement.

The VA is committed to a disabled veteran's home being an independent and unencumbered environment and as such they realize that some veterans will in some cases require a specially adapted home.

Consequently the specially adapted housing program was created to provide disabled veterans with a grant from the department of Veterans Affairs to build a home with special features or to modify their existing home to accommodate their needs.
